Parish Programs to help our Community and our Parishioners

St. Joseph Catholic Church has several programs in place to help our community and to help
             raise funds for our parish.

             Shepherd's Table

Once a month parishioners prepare lunch and serve those in need at the
Daybreak Shelter.  Dates are published in the weekly bulletin.

             Market Day
A delicious way to order food and help the church at the same time!  10% of all
monthly sales are given to St. Joseph Church.  Check out www.marketday.com
for more information.  Choose our organization name St. Joseph Church, code # 25154.

              MANNA Gift Cards

The MANNA program offers gift cards to numerous stores, restaurants, theaters, gas
stations, and specialty shops.  You purchase the cards at face value; a percentage of
each card is donated back to St. Joseph Church.  Use the cards to do your own monthly
shopping as well as for all gift giving occasions.  A list of available MANNA merchants
                      can be found at www.mannagroup.net.

                Food 4 Less Rewards

When you shop at Food 4 Less for groceries or gasoline, present your Food 4 Less
Rewards Card.   St. Joseph receives a percentage of all purchases made when the
Rewards Card is scanned during check out.  It's that easy!  Cards are located at all
                      church entrances.

                Paper Recycling

Help the environment by recycling your papers:  newspapers, mails, catalogs, etc., can be
dropped off in our bins located in the gravel lot on Scott Street or in the parking lot at
St. Joseph Park on Theodore Street.

The following programs have recently been implemented to help our Parish Family.  If you
need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the rectory at 815-727-9378.

                   St. Joseph Charitable Fund

“Whatsoever you do to the least one, you do unto me.” (Mt. 25:40)

Through the generosity of the Carmelite Order of Priests and Brothers,
St. Joseph Parish was recently blessed to receive two grants, one for $5,000
and the other for $15,000. These grants, offered to ministries where Carmelites
serve the Church, are made available to help these ministries meet the basic
needs of people in need. As a result, the St. Joseph Charitable Foundation has
been established to help parishioners who need financial assistance to get them
through a difficult time, whether they are in need due to a job loss, under-
employment, health issues, or other matters.

The goal of this foundation is to provide a yearly grant to parishioners who
demonstrate financial need. Grants will be based on verified need, up to $500,
and available once in a calendar year to an individual or family. All informa-
tion will be held in the strictest of confidence.

As you read this, we hope it has encouraged you to make a donation to this
charitable foundation. We are extremely grateful to all parishioners and
benefactors who choose to support this very worthy cause. The “mark” of
any parish community is the way they care for one another, especially those
most in need. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the
St. Joseph Charitable Foundation, please mail it to St. Joseph Church,
416 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL, 60432, to the attention of Fr. Timothy P.
Andres, O. Carm.

Thank you for seriously considering making a donation to this very worthy
cause.

To whom much is given, much more is required.

God bless each of you for your continued generosity to St. Joseph Parish
and for your faithfulness to Our Lord and his Church.

Applications for assistance are available in the kiosk in the front entrance
of Church, the Rectory or by

 Mrs. Cherie Gimbel or
Fr. Timothy P. Andres, O. Carm. if you are interested

St. Joseph Scholarship

Supporting Catholic Education

St. Joseph Parish has always had a tradition of supporting the Catholic
education of our children.  The Parish Council does not want this tradition
to end just because our school has closed.  Our parish will be supporting
our children’s Catholic education by financially assisting our parents.
The
parish will be offering scholarships to active parishioners to help offset the
cost of sending their children to a Catholic grade school.   Parents who wish
to apply for this scholarship are asked to contact the rectory for an application
form.  The scholarship is open to any active parishioner with children in a
Catholic grade school (K – 8).  The completed form must be submitted to the
rectory by April 12, 2013

John F. Klimek Scholarship Application

John F. Klimek was born in Joliet, Illinois on September 24, 1899.  His family, of
Slovak Catholic descent, emigrated from Austria-Hungary to Canada and then to the
United States of America.  Mr. Klimek knew the value of a good, solid, Catholic education.
He was fluent in eight different languages (English, Slovak, Czech, Croatian, Russian,
Polish, German and Italian) and excelled in mathematics.  Additionally, he was awarded
the Palmer Penmanship Award for excellence in his cursive script style.  Mr. Klimek had
completed two years of college education and wanted to become a lawyer when, at the
age of 19, a tragic family accident changed
his life and forced him to operate the family
business,  Klimek’s Grocery.  Klimek’s Grocery, on 712 Landau Ave., offered a complete
line of meats, sausages and cheeses, bakery items, staple foods, frozen food items and a
candy counter as well as a selection of dry goods.  Mr. Klimek was known as a generous
individual who helped many throughout the years of the Great Depression, WWII, and
the decades afterwards. It is in his honor that Destinations by Dixon LLC (Pam Dixon,
owner, granddaughter, and parishioner of St. Joseph Church) will award a $500.00
scholarship to the most qualified 8
th grade student who is an active parishioner of
St. Joseph’s Church in Joliet and who enters a Catholic high school in the Diocese of
Joliet in the fall semester 2013
.
The award will be paid directly to the business office of
the student’s high school.  All applications must be completed and returned to Fr. Timothy
Andres, O. Carm., no later than May 1, 2013.  All applicants will be notified of the com-
mittee’s decision.  Questions should be directed to Fr. Tim at the rectory, 815-727-9378.

Applications are located on the kiosk in the front entrance of Church, at the rectory, or
on the parish website at www.stjosephjoliet.org under the Church tab.
